Portsmouth boss explains why Rangers' Ross McCrorie and Norwich's Sean Raggett's loans are still to be extended ahead of play-offs

But Kenny Jackett remains hopeful the duo will be given the green light to remain at Fratton Park for the remainder of the season.

The 2019-20 League One campaign is likely to be curtailed when EFL clubs meet tomorrow, with league positions to be decided via an unweighted points-per-game formula.

As a result, Pompey will finish fifth and enter a traditional four-team play-off with Oxford, Fleetwood and Wycombe.

The Blues have already extended Steve Seddon's loan spell from Birmingham, while Barnsley will allow Cameron McGeehan to see out his time on the south coast.

However, Pompey have yet to have reach an agreement with Raggett and McCrorie’s respective parent clubs.

Raggett is out of contract at Norwich at the end of this month, which makes his situation precarious.

Jackett, however, remains hopeful the centre-back – who’s scored twice in 36 appearances – will be available for any remaining games this term.

The Blues boss said: ‘We have Sean until June 30 and will see what the remainder of this season looks like.

‘We’re waiting for the EFL to give us some direction and then we can speak to the individuals about their situations.

‘We would want Sean here. His situation is he’s under contract for the remainder of this month but the timing is getting tight.

‘It depends, firstly, if there are play-offs and, secondly, what the dates are.

‘Sean was training today and has been around Portsmouth all the way through lockdown. He is committed and we'll see what exactly the situation is this week.’

McCrorie is also determined to see out the campaign at Pompey, having made 22 appearances since arriving on loan from Rangers.

With the Scottish Premiership targeting August 1 to start the 2020-21 season, however, he may be required to report back for Ibrox duty.

Jackett will wait and see when the Blues' next fixture is before contacting the Gers.

He added: ‘There are individual situations but we are planning and working with them to be here if possible.

‘That is what they want as well. Ross McCrorie is back in Portsmouth and he wants to be involved with us if he can.

‘It's hard to phone people up if you can't tell them what period they are actually needed for.

‘Everybody can see that but we will see and try to make the right decisions with our players going forward.’
