Portsmouth boss John Mousinho reeling from triple injury set-back amid demoralising Cardiff defeat

Pompey are sweating on fresh injury concerns after losing a trio of players in the first half of their Cardiff loss.

The Blues slipped to a 2-0 defeat at the Bluebirds, a demoralising defeat underpinned by an awful opening 45 minutes.

During that period, Regan Poole’s own goal and Callum Robinson’s finish handed the hosts an unassailable lead - and it could have been plenty more.

To make matters worse, Pompey also lost Paddy Lane, Nicolas Schmid and Jordan Williams to injury.

And John Mousinho is waiting to learn from his medical staff the full extent of their issues - and whether they will be available for Friday’s visit of Sheffield Wednesday.

He told The News: ‘Paddy has an issue with his achilles, I don’t know how bad it is.

‘Jordan Williams injured his hip flexor in the challenge which somehow resulted in a free-kick for Cardiff.

‘Both went in the same way and both got caught. I made the point to the referee at half-time that our player had to come off because of that challenge

‘Nico took a whack when we conceded the second goal and had a bit of blurred vision, so came off.

‘It wasn't a concussion, but his eyesight in one eye was slightly blurry and I don’t think the lights helped, so we brought Jordan on.

‘I don’t know if he will be okay on Friday, we will have to see.’

Lane, who had been handed a recall, came off in the 15th minute and was replaced by Kusini Yengi.

Meanwhile, Schmid left the field in the 31st minute, with Jordan Archer coming off the bench for his debut, subsequently shining.

While Williams didn’t appear after the interval following a collusion with David Turnbull shortly before the break, earning himself a booking.
