Portsmouth boss Kenny Jackett eyes midweek date to discover fate of Football League season

That is the verdict of Kenny Jackett, who has pinpointed forthcoming EFL meetings to provide crucial guidance on whether the Football League season will resume.

The government have given the go-ahead for football to restart behind closed doors from June 1, with the Premier League reportedly eyeing June 12.

However, there remain doubts whether the Football League will be able to follow suit.

And Jackett is hoping to learn more on Wednesday and Thursday this week when league chiefs meet to discuss their own situation.

Pompey's boss said: ‘The EFL board and the football industry generally were waiting for the government guidelines, which were on Sunday.

‘They will then meet this week to see how we go forward.

‘I always thought May was a pivotal month because in the end we are going to run out of time. I’m sure in the coming weeks there will be some decisions made by the football authorities about both this season and next season.

‘Round about Wednesday and Thursday are crunch days, with board meetings and discussions. When a decision is likely to be made I don’t know – or whether they’ll be further talks.

‘Sometimes I feel that it looks difficult for League One and League Two. Other days you hear of perhaps play-off competitions at a neutral venue and you can see that happening.

‘One day I feel it looks unlikely, then the next I am full of hope again. Something like a small competition could be staged – but I have no gut feeling or information past what everybody knows.’
