Portsmouth boss Kenny Jackett gives details on contract talks with Blackburn target Ronan Curtis

Kenny Jackett revealed ‘encouraging’ talks have taken place with Ronan Curtis over a new deal.

Curtis’ existing contract comes to a close in the summer, with the Blues having an option to extend his stay by another 12 months.

And Jackett confirmed discussions are taking place with the in-form winger over committing his future to the club he joined in 2018 from Derry City.

He said: ‘There have been talks, there’s been talks yes.

‘We have got anything (agreed) because we’ve been concentrating on this particular game.

‘But, yes, there’s been talks. I’m sure as and when they’re done they’ll be announced.

‘I’m not going to say we haven’t. We have been talking to him definitely, yes.

‘It’s encouraging. We’ve been pleased with him and I was pleased with him against Sunderland.’

Curtis has bagged 13 goals this season, including 10 in the past 16 fixtures as Pompey attack the promotion places.

Jackett added: He’s played very well and I felt he was a big threat.

‘He really did stretch them and they were key assists. It was terrific to see.

‘He’s been a good player. He was a little bit up and down at the start of the year.

‘But he’s got his head down and I thought he was a key player for us.

‘The assists were good and easy to target but he played very well.’
