Portsmouth boss’ key transfer insight as hunger for signings grows ahead of Sheffield Wednesday
Pompey fans are hungry for signings with deals now close - and a transfer promise from their head coach this evening.
John Mousinho is adamant Pompey haven’t missed out on any of their key January transfer targets.
And the Blues boss has called for just a little more patience, as his club wait for the players in their sights to become available.
Mousinho on January window: ‘Everything is fine at moment’
Mousinho is expecting recruitment activity, ahead of this weekend’s return to Championship action at Sheffield Wednesday.
The head coach this afternoon told The News he potentially anticipates more than one deal to be sealed, by the time his side go to Hillsborough on Saturday.
The News today also revealed striker Nesta Elphege is on their January shopping list, with bolstering the number nine department a winter window priority.
Luton Town winger Millenic Alli is another target, with a loan move for the 25-year-old being pursued after he moved to Kenilworth Road for £1.5m last January.
Pompey have also been linked with the likes of defenders Paddy McNair and Luke Graham, with wingers Ousmane Sow and Jahnoah Markelo other names to have surfaced this month.
Supporters are hungry to see transfer action get over the line, in what is set to be a critical period of recruitment activity for Championship survival hopes.
Other sides getting deals completed has only raised a demand to see Pompey moves to fruition, ahead of an important week of three Championship games in eight days.
There is optimism that will soon be the case, however, with Mousinho insistent none of the major players eyed have moved elsewhere.
The Pompey boss is realistic enough to know there will be transfer setbacks ahead, but promised supporters that has not yet been the case.
Mousinho said: ‘You deal with setbacks (over signings) how you deal with anything in football.
‘Nothing is straightforward and you learn to deal with frustrations and missing out on opportunities.
Pompey boss: ‘We’ve just got to be patient’
‘That’s the case whether it’s signings, chances or games which have gone by.
‘It’s part of football, if there’s any lessons to take from what we do then we take the lessons from them. You move on and try to learn from it.
‘But we haven’t missed out on anyone, I’m sure it’s frustrating (missing targets) but everything is fine at the moment.
‘Things will change, things will definitely change, we’ve just got to be patient, we’re waiting for other clubs to make players available in a lot of instances.
‘We have to be patient and in every single window, you have to try to get the right players at the right time.’
