Portsmouth complete signing of ex-Wigan attacking-midfielder Michael Jacobs

Pompey have completed the signing of attacking-midfielder Michael Jacobs on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old has penned a two-year deal at Fratton Park, with the Blues holding the option for a further 12 months.

Jacobs left Wigan at the end of last season and will wear the number 24 shirt.

He made 32 appearances for Paul Cook’s side last term and helped the Latics finish 13th in the Championship table.

They were, however, later deducted 12 points and relegated to League One after the club went into administration.

With five years Championship experience and three League One promotions on his CV, Jacobs is seen as a key figure who can help Pompey make the leap to the second tier.

He represents the Blues’ fourth new arrival this summer, following the captures of Sean Raggett, Cameron Pring (loan) and Callum Johnson.

Jacobs links up with manager Kenny Jackett for the second time in his career.

While at Derby, he joined the boss at Wolves, helping them win the League One title in 2014.
