However, Jones-Thomas was not present in Tuesday night’s 4-0 victory over Gosport Borough at Privett Park.

And it is understood Pompey handing the 19-year-old a Fratton Park deal appears to be off the cards.

Kenny Jackett has been doing Jones-Thomas and his agent a favour as he seeks a new home after being released by Swansea at the end of last season.

The Pompey manager did the same thing for Richard Brindley last summer. The right-back played in games at Aldershot and Woking before joining Notts County.

The Blues believe that Jones-Thomas wouldn't be an improvement on the youngsters such as Eoin Teggart and Harrison Brook already in the club's academy.

The Welshman may return for training to keep up his fitness levels, although a permanent deal appears to be off the cards.

Jackett is well stocked in the wide areas heading into a renewed League One promotion push.

Ronan Curtis and Marcus Harness started the penalty shootout victory at Stevenage on Saturday, as well as at Gosport.

Ryan Williams came off the bench in both games, while Reeco Hackett-Fairchild returned from injury at Privett Park.

The ex-Charlton made delivered an eye-catching performance, scoring a quickfire second-half double after missing the early part of pre-season with a knee setback.
