Blues chief executive Mark Catlin confirmed the club may have to return crucial payments from the EFL and Premier League - as well TV money if the campaign is not seen to a conclusion.

Football is today battling to find the answers to seeing this term out amid the coronavirus crisis.

The league have stated their desire is to see the season through, but there were doubts raised by members over how that can happen in the latest round of EFL meetings.

Pompey are already looking at a £1m-plus hole on their balance sheet with the hope League One will be played to a conclusion behind closed doors.

Those issues would only deepen if time was called on the season with nine games remaining for Kenny Jackett’s side.

Pompey’s latest accounts showed they received £1.99m from the EFL and Premier League in award/solidarity money.

A further £546,913 came into the club’s coffers in broadcasting and related payments.

There’s uncertainty about how those revenue streams would be affected if the club did not fufil their obligations by completing the 43 scheduled league fixtures.

Catlin said: ‘Potentially the money which clubs get in centrally from TV rights deals and the EFL there’s a danger, if this season is not completed, that could be affected.

‘I would hope that’s not the case but again it’s one of those various scenarios we have to face up to.’
