'Playing without fear': New Fratton favourite Ebou Adams toasts huge Portsmouth win against West Bromwich Albion

The former Forest Green Rovers midfielder scored his second Blues goal in four appearances

New Fratton hero Ebou Adams believes Pompey reaped the rewards from ‘playing without fear’ against West Brom.

The Blues produced one of the most outstanding opening 45 minutes of the season to establish a 2-0 half-time lead through goals from Conor Chaplin and Millenic Alli.

The Baggies were blown away and Adams then sealed the 3-0 victory with his second Pompey goal to cap another powerful performance from himself.

The result maintains impressive momentum of late, lifting John Mousinho’s men four points above the relegation zone.

And, at the heart of it, was the £500,000 recruit from Derby.

Adams told The News: ‘It’s a massive win, we are a good team, that’s the first thing we need to remember. We are a good team.

‘A performance like that is very much overdue. If we keep playing like that, I think we’ll be okay.

‘We played with no fear, it just shows we are a good team, we can mix up, we can play through the thirds, and everyone is playing with full confidence - and that's a massive thing in the game.

‘It showed in the first half, then in the second half you’re just kind of making sure they don’t get a goal really, but we were good from start to finish and that’s important.

‘We are a good team and it’s up to us to continue to keep showing it. We have to play with confidence, that's what you get from performances like the first half.

‘I enjoyed myself in that first half and I’m sure the boys did. The question is can you continuously keep performing like that?’

Having opened his scoring account against Southampton last weekend, Adams repeated the trick in the same Milton End goal, with the Baggies this time suffering.

Colby Bishop steered a header to Chaplin and the Ipswich loanee put a first-team pass through to the midfielder, whose shot was partially blocked by Max O’Leary, yet still found the net.

That’s now two goals in his opening four appearances for a player who has made a sensational early impact at Fratton Park.

He added: ‘The gaffer has given me a role here, get yourself in the box and try to get yourself goals, that’s the licence I have.

‘I class myself as a box-to-box player, making sure I am defending when I need to and trying to get a goal when I can.

‘I've got two in two - and hopefully I can carry that on.’
