Portsmouth boss pinpoints potential comeback date with fresh update on £1m man after horror injury
The Hungarian has made 16 appearances for the Blues after arriving in July 2025
John Mousinho has pinpointed Mark Kosznovszky’s potential return date from his horror injury.
And it appears the Fratton faithful won’t see the Hungarian midfielder in action again until November or December.

Although there is more positive news on Franco Umeh, another player who won’t feature again this season.
Such was the severity of the knee injury sustained by Kosznovszky against Charlton at Fratton Park, he damaged both the ACL and MCL.
The 23-year-old, who arrived last summer from MTK Budapest, had only been on the pitch as a substitute for 20 minutes before suffering the huge blow in the 85th minute of the 2-1 victory.
That was back in December and, following surgery, the likelihood is it won’t be another 11 months at least before the £1m signing is able to return to playing duty for the Blues.
‘It wasn’t a particularly nice injury to suffer’
Mousinho told The News: ‘Mark will be back probably in November or December.
‘He’s just had major surgery, we had to wait a bit of time because he had damaged the ACL and the MCL - and we weren’t sure whether we needed surgery on the MCL as well.

‘We waited, he didn’t need surgery on the MCL, which would have really complicated things. So it was straight surgery on the ACL, but we had to wait a bit of time to do that.
‘He is nine months from now. It wasn’t a particularly nice injury to suffer. He’s all right, he’s not dancing on the rooftops, mainly because he can’t, but he’s okay. He’s a very steady individual.’
Kosznovszky has made 16 appearances for Pompey since arriving in July 2026 to bolster Mousinho’s midfield.
He had started the previous two matches - 1-1 draws against Derby and QPR - before being employed as a substitute for the visit of Charlton on December 29 when serious injury struck.
Optimism over Crystal Palace recruit
Meanwhile, there is a more optimistic outlook over Umeh, who was ruled out for the season in January,
The winger suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury in the FA Cup third round defeat to Arsenal, having been introduced as a first-half substitute.
Replacing the injured Harvey Blair in the 40th minute, the former Crystal Palace winger himself lasted 44 minutes before being forced off with a hamstring problem.
That represented only his second Blues outing, having struggled with injury since his deadline day arrival in September from Selhurst Park.
However, Umeh is expected to be back for the start of Pompey pre-season training, which is traditionally in June.
Mousinho added: ‘Franco is fine, he’s just a long, long way of affecting us at the minute.
‘We expect him to be back for preseason.
