‘Show the love’: Portsmouth boss’ Abu Kamara message as £2.5m Hull City capture bids to kickstart Fratton career at Norwich City

The Hull City signing is still looking for his first Championship goal as Pompey got to Norwich City.

John Mousinho has underlined an unerring conviction Abu Kamara will soon be firing on all cylinders for Pompey.

And the Blues boss has called for the winger to be shown the appreciation which will allow his confidence to flow in the Championship.

Mousinho: ‘We need to keep his confidence up and show the love that Abs deserves’

Kamara is looking for the first goal of his second spell at Fratton Park, following his £2.5m capture from Hull City in August.

The 23-year-old has registered a single assist so far, but Mousinho’s faith in the winger remains absolute.

Mousinho acknowledged Pompey haven’t seen the best of Kamara yet, but is certain the Londoner isn’t far from reaching his most irresistible form.

The head coach wants to see the key man being positive in his play in an environment which will allow him to flourish.

Mousinho said: ‘The message to Abu is stick with it, stay positive and keep taking the full-back on.

‘Keep running, keep working and things are going to drop for you - there’s absolutely no doubt about that.

‘Wingers are wingers. Abs has been involved with goals, he’s just not scored himself yet.

‘Things will definitely fall for him, I have absolutely no doubt about that.

‘I’ve genuinely got no concerns about him, it’s just in the meantime we need to keep his confidence up and show the love that Abs deserves.

‘The best way to really hit the ground running and get back that best form is with a load of support.’

There’s no doubt Kamara has shown flashes of brilliance since returning to Pompey, with his display in the 2-0 win over Cardiff City last month an eye-catching effort.

Mousinho feels there’s been similar moments from the former Norwich City man in his past two outings against Southampton and Sheffield United.

And he believes Kamara starting every game he’s been available for is evidence of his continuing confidence in his charge’s ability.

Mousinho said: ‘The belief internally in Abs I would say is seen by us playing nine league games - he’s started all of them.

‘He’s played 90 minutes in the majority of the games - we love him to bits.

‘We will get him there. To be honest, I don’t think he’s far off it at all.

‘There’s been some real glimpses in the games he played, particularly on Sunday and last night.

‘We’ve seen plenty of that and I think we are going to get the Abs back from the League One season.’
