Key Leicester City injury update as Portsmouth boss confirms Ebou Adams and Gustavo Caballero return games
The latest over the Pompey return dates for standout midfielder Ebou Adams and winger Gustavo Caballero this evening.
John Mousinho has confirmed he expects Ebou Adams to return for Pompey’s critical relegation showdown with Leicester City.
But the Blues boss has stated Gustavo Caballero will certainly miss the next two games of his team’s bid to stay in the Championship.
Adams back for Leicester City - Stoke City earliest return to Caballero
Adams is on course to end his four-game absence with a comeback against the Foxes this weekend, following a four-game absence with a knee injury picked up at QPR before the international break.
That’s a much-needed boost in terms of midfield options for Mousinho, following two huge efforts in terms of output from Marlon Pack and Andre Dozzell in the successes at Middlesbrough and under the Fratton lights against Ipswich Town last night.
Adams will need to complete the final medical milestones to give him the green light to return to selection availability for the Saturday lunchtime clash,
Speaking at this evening’s press conference, Mousinho said: ‘If Ebou comes through everything he needs to on Friday we expect him to be ready for Saturday. He should be fit for the weekend.’
The outlook is not so positive for Caballero, however, with the Paraguayan missing the Ipswich game with a groin injury picked up at the Riverside Stadium last Saturday.
Mousinho on Caballero: ‘Stoke will be the earliest he’s back’
Mousinho told The News after the 2-0 win over Ipswich last night he did expect the January arrival to play again this season, but didn’t have any further details on the games he will miss.
The Pompey boss has now confirmed this Saturday’s meeting and next Tuesday’s trip to Championship leaders Coventry City are definitely out of the equation for the 24-year-old.
There are hopes Caballero could potentially be back in contention for Stoke City on the penultimate weekend of the season, if not he should definitely return for the final-day meeting with Birmingham City on May 2.
Mousinho said: ‘There’s no progress with Gus.
‘He will probably not be back next week, which rules him out for Coventry and probably Stoke too - so we’re probably looking at Birmingham for Gus. Stoke will be the earliest he’s back.’
