Terry Devlin opened the scoring after 15 minutes before Enis Destan and Kyle Joseph turned the game around for the Tigers.

Although the right back levelled the scores before the break, Leeds United loanee Joe Gelhardt inflicted late pain on the Blues.

John Mousinho made just one change to the side who picked up a point against Wrexham in midweek, with Jordan Williams replacing the injured Connor Ogilvie, while Josh Murphy was fit enough to retain his spot in the side.

It was Sergej Jakirovic’s side which had the early opportunities, with Josef Bursik coming to the rescue to deny Joseph within the first six minutes.

Minutes later, Gelhardt pierced through the Blues’ backline but struck an effort wide of the mark.

And Pompey punished those missed chances, with Devlin ending their barren run in front of goal. The full-back was able to hit a venomous shot, which took a nasty deflection, to fire Mousinho’s men ahead after 15 minutes.

But the Blues sat back after that, which allowed Hull to grow back into the game after a slow start.

Indeed, 12 minutes later, the Tigers found their equaliser as Destan was able to calmly convert from close range. It got worse for Pompey three minutes before half time as Joseph rose highest from a corner to turn the contest around for the hosts.

The action wasn’t done there, though, before the break with the dangerous Murphy, who was deemed fit enough to start after a full 90 minute performance against Wrexham in midweek, delivered a wonderful ball into the box.

His cross was on a plate for Devlin, who calmly headed home the equaliser just seconds before half time to net his second of the afternoon.

However, the early stages of the second half failed to match the hype of the first 45, with both sides creating very little in the opening 20 minutes after the break.

Hull did have the best opportunity on 63 minutes, although Gelhardt headed over the bar.

The hosts continued to pile on the pressure and were able to cut open the Pompey backline, with a Charlie Hughes throw ball finding Gelhardt.

After taking a couple of chances, the forward was able to place an effort over Bursik to inflict late pain on Mousinho’s men.

The Blues did have late opportunities to equalise deep into the eight minutes of stoppage time, with substitute Makenzie Kirk heading an effort straight at Ivor Pandur.

Pompey were unable to find a leveller, with the defeat condemning them to six straight games without victory.
