Portsmouth defender fires no-nonsense message as survival concerns grow after Swansea City defeat
Pompey suffered their third defeat in a row on Tuesday evening following a 1-0 loss against Swansea City.
Ibane Bowat is adamant Pompey have to go ‘back to the drawing board’ in a bid to find a winning formula.
But the central defender has stressed there is still plenty of time to turn the season around amid a dire run of form on the south coast at present.
The loss keeps John Mousinho’s men in the bottom three, with the gap to safety now two points following Oxford United’s draw away to Blackburn Rovers.
Pompey have now won just two of their previous 15 league matches, having picked up 17 points from their opening 19 games this term.
And Bowat is adamant the Blues have to go back to basics ahead of the hugely important festive period in order to turn their fortunes around
The clear message from Pompey dressing room
He said: ‘We don’t like losing, we’re definitely going to have to go back to the drawing board and assess what's going on.
‘We try and stay as positive as we can and focus on the games ahead because we’ve got a busy schedule ahead of us.
‘It’s about learning about today and taking that into our following games and amend.
‘I think the team as a whole needs to look at all areas of the pitch. My emotions are high at the moment but we need to go back to the drawing board and amend on what happened.
‘We are where we are in the table but there are a lot of games left. We are only about a third of the season in so we have time.
‘We have to get back together and do what we do well and start putting some results together. This next month is filled with games so it’s a good opportunity to rack up some points.
‘We will have to go over what happened tonight and go back to the drawing board and hopefully get better results in the coming weeks.’
Pompey dressing room’s frustrations after Swansea defeat

Pompey lost ground in the battle for survival, with early-season relegation rivals Swansea edging a 1-0 win on Tuesday.
Bowat, though, is adamant his side created enough to earn at least a point in South Wales.
‘It’s a frustrating one. I think it was a game that we felt we could’ve come away with something.
‘Once again we’re close but just not enough and the whole team is just frustrated.
‘Overall we defended well, we didn’t give them many chances bar that one really and it’s just these little moments.
‘I’m gutted we conceded that goal, I thought we had the upper hand for the majority of the game and maybe being slightly more clinical in the final third and putting the game away.
‘It’s so frustrating because they didn’t have many opportunities tonight bar that goal. I felt as though we did have the upper hand, it’s just we weren’t clinical enough.’
