‘It’s been hard’: Luton Town loanee lifts lid on Portsmouth frustration - but sets exciting challenge after Fratton bow
Jacob Brown netted his first Pompey goal during Tuesday's 2-1 defeat to Swansea City at Fratton Park.
Jacob Brown has admitted he’s been frustrated by his lack of Pompey starts during his brief stay on the south coast to date.
But the Luton Town loanee has set himself the challenge of nailing down a starting position after an exciting Fratton Park bow on Tuesday.
Indeed, the versatile attacker was central to Pompey’s forward play and was unlucky not to open his Blues account in the first period, when an early effort hit the post.
But the 27-year-old was able to find that elusive goal after the break as Mousinho’s troops looked to stage a comeback, with Brown impressing during the second half.
With four of his six outings so far coming from the bench, the Luton man admitted he’s found it ‘hard’ coming on as a substitute in recent weeks - but is looking to target more starts in the final 10 games of the campaign.
Luton loanee sets clear Pompey challenge
He told The News: ‘It’s really good for me. When I signed, I came here to add goals and assists to my game and to the team. I’ve obviously got a lot more work to do but hopefully that can continue.
‘It’s massive (for confidence), especially when you sign for a new club, you want to get goals as early as you can.
‘For me, it’s been brilliant to do that and I keep going for the next one.
‘It’s been hard when you come off the bench but depending on the situation of the game. But like I said, whether it's starting or coming off the bench whatever position, I just try and give my all and do the best I can.
‘That’s what every player in the squad wants to do to start games and play as much as we can.
‘I work hard in training and in games to be able to do that. It always helps (having that versatility) because you’ve got more opportunities to play and in different positions and I just have to do well when I play.’
Pompey striker lifts lid on Fratton celebration

Brown’s first Pompey goal came in front of the Fratton End - something he’s admitted was ‘the best feeling’.
But his header meant more than just that, with the forward confirming the reason behind his emotional celebration.
‘Yeah it was the best feeling (scoring in front of the Fratton End)’, he added.
‘Obviously since I’ve signed here that’s what I’ve wanted to do and to be able to do that on my first start was a good feeling.
‘I’ve been waiting for a while top do that (announce the news) so I was buzzing to do that in front of my wife supporting me here so it was a good moment for me.’
