Next Bristol City boss: Significant shift in betting patterns with Portsmouth, Lincoln City and Crystal Palace trio firmly in frame

Big shifts in the next Bristol City manager betting market yesterday evening and overnight.

There’s been significant movement in the next Bristol City manager betting market with John Mousinho in the frame for the Ashton Gate hot-seat.

The market reacted to a flurry of activity yesterday evening, as Mousinho was knocked off his perch at the head of the running to become Robins boss with the oddsmakers.

Major shift in betting patterns over Bristol City job

Mousinho has been clear favourite in recent days with Bet Victor, who are running a market over who will become the permanent successor to Gerhard Struber.

Things shifted last night, however, as Lincoln City boss Michael Skubala became the new favourite - moving in from 5/4 to 11/10.

There was also backing for Crystal Palace assistant manager, Paddy McCarthy, who went above Mousinho to become second favourite at 2/1 with the Pompey head coach dropping to 9/4 third favourite.

Punters had clearly been reacting to talk around Bristol City’s managerial search, which continues after temporary boss Roy Hodgson departed at the end of the campaign.

The market has once again readjusted overnight and really crystalised in the process, with Mousinho and Skubala now joint favourites at 11/8 at the time of this story’s publication.

Paddy McCarthy has drifted to 2/1 with former Southampton and Rangers boss Russell Martin 6/1.

There is a significant drop-off from there with the quartet the firm bookies’ contenders - and everyone else 33/1 or longer.

There’s been news over Bristol City’s interest in Skubala this week, as reports emerged the Robins had activated a release clause in the Lincoln City boss’ contract.

That came after weekend reports Skubala was set to remain with the League One champions, with it later emerging the clause activation preceded an exit from Lincoln not developing.

There is an obvious connection with McCarthy and Bristol City, with the former defender working with Hodgson as his No2 at Palace. The former England boss has been advising Bristol City on the direction they’re headed amid his recent stay with the club.

Martin is also high up the betting and has been out of work since leaving Scottish giants Rangers after just 17 games last October.

Mousinho is also known to be in the frame for the job, with Bristol City renewing interest in the 40-year-old after previously being keen on the Pompey boss.

Reports suggest there is a shortlist of four names being considered for the vacant post at Ashton Gate.
