Latest: Josh Murphy update amid injury fears over key Pompey man

Pompey boss John Mousinho has provided a key update over the extent of Josh Murphy’s injury after he missed the 1-1 draw with QPR.

The outstanding Blues winger was forced out of the Boxing Day clash at Fratton Park, after picking up a hamstring issue at Derby County last weekend.

Murphy was at today’s game and seen moving gingerly before kick-off, leading to worries over the extent of his latest issue.

Mousinho has moved to alleviate concerns the 30-year-old is looking at a lengthy spell on the sidelines, but stated this afternoon he could still be out for up to a couple of weeks.

That likely rules the Oxford United arrival out of the home meeting with Charlton on December 29, with the trip to Bristol City following on New Year’s Day and Ipswich Town at Fratton Park on January 4.

Mousinho said: ‘Josh is okay but was feeling that hamstring still and was touch and go.

‘Hopefully it will be a week or two and we will see him back in action.’

Meanwhile, Mousinho has eased concerns over Mark Kosznovszky being sidelined, after the Hungarian midfielder came off in the second half of the QPR meeting.

The Pompey boss also confirmed Conor Shaughnessy should be in contention to face Charlton Athletic on Monday, after over three months out with his hamstring issue.

Josh Knight (back), and Florian Bianchini (knee) remain out of contention, however, with Connor Ogilvie (knee), Jacob Farrell (groin) and Thomas Waddingham (quad) all in the treatment room still.

Mousinho added: ‘Mark came off with a dead leg but I think he’ll be fine

‘Conor is back for the 29th, that remains the same. He’s been back in training for a week now. He’s looking good.

‘Josh is two weeks away from getting into full movement, he’s had some issues with his back.

‘Florian’s feeling his knee and is waiting for his tendonitis to settle down.’
