Championship rivals agree deal to sign former Ipswich Town man ahead of Portsmouth contest as Sheffield United consider £15m ace

The latest transfer headlines involving Pompey’s Championship rivals.

The January transfer window is just over a week from opening and excitement is building across the Championship.

Although Christmas is upon us, clubs finalise their plans for the market as preparations continue across the Championship.

That is no different at Fratton Park, with John Mousinho lifting the lid on Pompey’s potential plans, with incomings and outgoings expected next month.

Gossip and speculation continues to do the rounds across the second tier as the clock ticks towards the New Years’ Day opening.

Here are the latest headlines involving the Blues’ rivals.

Sheffield United swoop for Ipswich Town man

Sheffield United are reportedly eyeing a shock move for Ipswich Town star Jack Clarke in January.

The Blades have had an underwhelming start to the new season, having missed out on promotion to the Premier League in the play-off final at Wembley in May.

While results have improved in recent weeks, Chris Wilder’s men remain just five points ahead of Pompey in the standings - and seven above the relegation zone.

Clarke is believed to be a name on the shopping list at Bramall lane as the Steel City outfit bid to strengthen for a vitally important second half of the campaign.

Our sister paper, The Star, have claimed the 25-year-old is being monitored ahead of an audacious swoop next month.

The winger, who has featured in every league game for third-placed Ipswich this term, is being tracked by the Blades, with the potential for a loan deal in the second half of the season.

During that time, Clarke has netted seven goals and registered two assists as his stock grows at Portman Road.

The England youth international made a £15m move from Sunderland in 2024, which has seen him total 10 goals and provide eight assists in all competitions.

Bristol City have reportedly agreed a deal to sign experienced midfielder Sam Morsy, according to reports.

The midfielder has been a free agent since September after his two-year deal with Kuwait FC was cancelled just three games into his stay.

Having departed Ipswich at the end of last term, the 34-year-old is set to make a sensational return to the Championship.

BBC Sport have claimed the Robins are poised to announce Morsy after agreeing a six-month deal at Ashton Gate.

Gerhard Struber’s men are believed to have a further one-year option in the former Egypt international’s contract, which could keep him with the club until 2027.

Bristol City have battled with a number of key injury issues in the engine room during the first half of the campaign, with Morsy coming in to aid their midfield crisis.

The experienced operator captained the Tractor Boys in their impressive back-to-back promotion-winning side from League One to the Premier League.

The Robins welcome Mousinho’s men to Ashton Gate on New Years’ Day, with the 34-year-old expected to have completed a move.
