Official: Portsmouth seal deadline day capture of £5m Brentford talent Jayden Meghoma

Pompey sign Brentford left-back Jayden Meghoma on loan.

Pompey have completed the deadline day signing of highly-rated Brentford left-back Jayden Meghoma.

The Blues have unveiled the highly-rated 20-year-old as their 11th signing of the transfer window, with the young talent joining on a season-long loan from the Gtech Community Stadium.

Official confirmation of his arrival comes just one hour before the transfer window slams shut.

Meghoma’s arrival finally solves head coach John Mousinho’s issues at left-back following injuries to both Connor Ogilvie (knee) and Jacob Farrell (groin).

Having missed the entirety of the Blues’ pre-season campaign, the duo have sat out the opening five matches of the season and are still some time away before completing their returns.

This has forced versatile right-back Zak Swanson to answer Mousinho’s SOS on the left-flank in the opening month of the new term.

Meghoma becomes the latest Fratton Park recruit from the Gtech Community Stadium this summer, following Benjy Arthur’s arrival last month.

He also joins Eoin Kenny, Rocco Shein, Odin Bailey, Abu Kamara, Marko Milovanovic, Daniel Bielica, Iyad Mohamed, Ryan Kavuma-McQueen and Luke Brooke-Smith in making PO4 his new home.

A loan deal for Swansea winger Zeidane Inoussa is also expected to be completed before the close of the window.

Confirming Meghoma’s arrival, Mousinho said: ‘We’re delighted to welcome Jayden to the club and I’m looking forward to working with him for the rest of the season.

‘It is no secret that left-back is an area where we needed to strengthen and it’s great to bring in someone in who has both exciting potential, but also plenty of experience of men’s football.’

Meghoma rose through the ranks before moving to south-coast rivals Southampton in 2022, aged 16.

He registered four first-team outings at St Mary’s before being snapped up by Brentford two years later in a £5m deal.

During his two-year stay at the Gtech Community Stadium, the full-back has made one substitute outing in the Premier League along with three Carabao Cup appearances.

Meghoma has Championship experience under his belt, having spent the second half of the 2024-25 campaign on loan with Preston North End.

The young defender enjoyed a positive season-long stay at Rangers last term, amassing 44 appearances in all competitions - including eight Europa League outings.

Brentford have since sanctioned another temporary exit for Meghoma, who will remain at Fratton for the rest of the campaign.
