Pompey have made an impressive start to the new Championship season and currently sit two points outside of the play-offs ahead of Saturday’s trip to Burnley.
Attention is already turning to the January window for John Mousinho, who has admitted plans for the upcoming market are expected to ramp up in the next 2-3 weeks at Fratton Park.
But if Mousinho is looking to strengthen, space will be created in his squad, with his ranks currently full, with Mark Kosznovszky, Harvey Blair, Josh Murphy and Connor Ogilvie left out of the 25-man EFL side.
We’ve identified nine players who could depart Fratton Park for all different reasons in January as transfer talk begins to ramp up.

5. Franco Umeh
Umeh has been heavily hampered by injury since his September 2025 arrival, which has seen him feature just twice in all competitions. The ex-Crystal Palace youngster has returned to the fold in recent weeks after recovering from a hamstring tear and is bolstering Mousinho's wide ranks, which are set to increase once again by Josh Murphy's comeback. Umeh is in need of regular minutes, something he hasn't had at Fratton so far, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the Blues secure a loan during the second half of the campaign. | Getty Images

6. Harvey Blair
Blair looks to have played his final game for Pompey after declaring his desire to leave Fratton Park. The winger has had a disastrous two-year stay on the south coast, with injuries restricting him to just 29 appearances in all competitions. After failing to seal an exit in the summer, the 23-year-old was subsequently left out of the Blues' 25-man EFL squad and is expected to depart in January. | Jason Brown

7. Luke Brooke-Smith
Brooke-Smith is currently sidelined after sustaining a fractured fibula, significant ligament damage and a dislocated ankle in a horrific training ground accident. Mousinho has pencilled in January as the 18-year-old's return, which could come at the perfect time for the Blues to assess his playing time. The young New Zealand international has featured five times since his summer arrival, but given his age, Pompey will no doubt want him to be playing regular football during the second half of the season. | Jason Brown

8. Michael Ani
Ani has recently returned to Fratton Park after a successful one-month loan stay with the Hawks. Pompey will be looking to move the defender on once again to further his first-team development. | Jason Brown
