‘They can leave’: Luton Town boss makes clear transfer admission as uncertainty grows over £1.5m ex-Portsmouth loanee Millenic Alli's future
Millenic Alli’s Luton Town future has been under the spotlight following his loan stay at Pompey last term.
Jack Wilshere has revealed a number of his Luton Town squad have been told they’re free to depart Kenilworth Road this summer as Millenic Alli’s future remains uncertain.
And the head coach has hinted at a ‘couple’ of imminent departures as he assembles his League One squad.
The Republic of Ireland international fell out of favour with Wilshere prior to his winter switch and was left out of seven squads prior to the head coach’s appointment in October.
This cast huge doubt over the forward’s long-term future at Kenilworth Road, having only made a £1.5m move from Exeter City in January 2025.
The Luton boss has since revealed talks with a number of players took place over their destinies at the end of the season.
Uncertainty grows over ex-Pompey loanee’s future
And Wilshere has revealed he has given the green light for those players currently out of favour in his squad to depart.
Speaking to BBC Radio Three Counties, he said: ‘I was really clear with that at the end of the season, but I was really clear with the group of players that you were talking about - I won’t name names because I don’t think it’s fair to them.
‘I wanted them to be clear because from my experience as a player sometimes those difficult conversations aren’t always nice but actually at the end of it you’ve got clarity and you understand where you’re at.
‘I made that clear to them. I’ve made it clear they can leave and look for something else but if they don’t before pre-season starts that there will be another training group.
‘It’s really important that we protect what we had, what we built in terms of unity and togetherness but also give those players the right support because if we want to get them out we need them to be sharp, need them to be fit, need them to be ready.
‘It’s more work for us as coaches but we’re trying to protect that group that we’ve got.’
Luton boss expecting imminent departures

With Luton returning to pre-season at the end of last week, Wilshere explained those players out of favour have trained in a separate group away from his squad in order to maintain their fitness.
And Wilshere has revealed talks are already underway, with a ‘couple’ of departures imminent.
‘I think we’re close with a couple (of departures). Again, I wouldn’t like to name them because I don’t think that’s fair on them.
‘But that being said, they want to look after their own careers and that’s what I felt straight away when I told them.
‘They all understood. It wasn’t a back-and-forth, they all completely understood.
‘I’m sure they, plus their agents, are getting to work trying to find the next step for them.’
