Portsmouth boss' frustration after Blues suffer worrying Connor Ogilvie injury blow

The left-back was forced off in the 27th minute of the goalless draw with Wrexham

John Mousinho is waiting to learn the extent of Connor Ogilvie’s absence after Pompey suffered yet another injury set-back.

The defender was forced off in the 27th minute of Wednesday night’s goalless draw with Wrexham through a knee injury.

Having been clattered by Issa Kabore after the ball had been played, Ogilvie attempted to continue, yet eventually came off, with Jordan Williams replacing him at left wing-back.

Much to John Mousinho’s bewilderment, the former Gillingham man didn’t even receive a free-kick for Kabore’s challenge, which occurred right in front of the linesman.

Now the Blues’ medical team are assessing the damage sustained by Ogilvie to his knee as he becomes the latest player condemned to the sidelines through injury.

‘It was a very strange one’

Mousinho told The News: ‘We will find out probably next week, Connor’s felt his knee, you don’t really know after a game.

‘It was a very strange one, I thought it was a free-kick, I don’t know why it wasn’t given, so we’ve ended up with an injured player.

‘I suspect once it settles down, we'll have a scan and have the results sometime next week. We’ll probably know earlier, but, by the time we actually clear everything, it will probably be next week.’

Back into the side following illness

Ogilvie had only just returned to Pompey’s side, having missed Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at Birmingham through illness.

His availability against Wrexham allowed the Blues to line up in a 3-4-3, with Ogilvie and Terry Devlin operating as wing-backs.

Ibane Bowat, who featured at left-back against Birmingham, instead switched to a left-sided centre-half role in a back three also containing Regan Poole and Josh Knight.

Ogilvie has played 13 times for Pompey this season, yet Williams impressed after coming off the bench to deputise for him against the Red Dragons.

The Blues are already without Nicolas Schmid, Callum Lang, Connor Shaughnessy, Thomas Waddingham, Adrian Segecic, Thomas Waddingham, Harvey Blair and Franco Umeh.

None will be available for Saturday’s trip to Hull, although Mousinho has previously voiced optimism that there could be players back from injury after the international break.

The head coach added: ‘There's no point in speculating about Connor’s injury, we did that with Segs and thought it might be the worst and it turned out it wasn’t too bad.’
