Portsmouth faithful handed 'voluntary option' following costly QPR 'error'

Pompey fans abroad are able to watch the Blues via the club’s Pompey+ streaming service

‘Apologetic’ Pompey have allegedly reached out to fans who tuned in to watch the Boxing Day game against QPR via their live streaming service.

It’s been claimed the club made contact with the overseas viewers after those who purchased a match-day pass for the Pompey+ coverage of the Championship fixture got access to the game cheaper than expected.

The price for full access to the Blues’ exclusive broadcast is normally set at £10. However, for last Friday’s game - which saw John Mousinho’s side held to a 1-1 draw by the R’s at Fratton Park - those supporters who watched on from abroad were seemingly charged only £2.50.

‘Human error’ has been attributed to the incorrect price at the point of sale, with the club allegedly offering an apology as a result.

However, the apology has been accompanied by an invite to volunarily pay the remaining £7.50.

It’s worth emphasising, though, that those fans supposedly contacted are under no obligation to do so - something which was stipulated in the communication.

A copy of the correspondence has appeared on social media.

It reads: ‘We are writing to be open about an error that affected international video passes for the Boxing Day fixture against QPR.

‘Due to human error on our side, the match pass was incorrectly priced at £2.50 instead of £10 at the point of sale.

‘Your purchase remains completely valid and you were right to receive access to the match at that price. We want to apologise for this mistake.

‘If you would like to, you now have the option to voluntarily pay the remaining £7.50. There is no obligation at all to do so, and your original purchase will stand regardless.
