The Blues were leading through Tyrese Shade’s sixth-minute goal, his first for the club since joining from League One Burton,
However, their Austrian keeper gifted the visitors an equaliser on 59 minutes when Ben Johnson’s cross from the right went straight through his hands and Jack McGlynn capitalised.
Then, 13 minutes from time, Schmid push out Ethan Galbraith’s shot and Ben Wilmot headed into an empty net to send the visitors to the top of the Championship.
And here are our Pompey ratings...
1. Goal, Portsmouth winger Tyrese Shade (17) scores during the EFL Championship match between Portsmouth and Stoke City at Fratton Park Stadium, Portsmouth, England on 7th November 2026
Pompey 2-1 lost to Stoke, despite having taken the lead. | Jason Brown
2. Nicolas Schmid - 5
Worrying mistakes creeping into his game. Awful error for the equaliser, allowing Johnson cross to slip through his hands. Then his good save from Galbraith’s shot was then finished off by Wilmot for the winner. | Jason Brown
3. Terry Devlin - 7
The Swansea goal hero once again held off Swanson at right-back and it was another confident showing. His forays forward in the first-half especially caused Stoke problems and he defended well.
4. Regan Poole - 8
Fascinating battle with Bozenik. Poole claimed he was elbowed in the first half, then received a soft booking for a challenge on the striker on stroke of half-time. Another strong showing, full of heart and bite as he continues to flourish in regular first-team starts. | Jason Brown
