The Fratton Faithful are on tenterhooks waiting for the official announcement of the 22-year-old’s capture, in a deal which will blow away all fees paid for a player since the Blues were in the Premier League.

Everything is agreed over a deal which could eventually reach €5m, however, with Pompey believed to be paying an initial €3.5m for the former Partizan Belgrade man.

Personal terms are in place with the player known as ‘Marezi’, with his official unveiling now in the offing.

Deals for overseas signings are complicated by the need to acquire a work permit, visa and international clearance before a player can feature for their side.

A similar wait unfolded for Rocco Shein, before his multi-million pound capture from Norwegian side Fredrikstad FK was announced on Tuesday.

Shein flew into England and met staff at Fratton Park last week, but had to wait for the move to be confirmed.

That is now a deal which supersedes any since the Premier League in terms of the size of fee paid.

But that will be bettered by Milovanović’s capture, which will be the most Pompey have shelled out for a player since bringing in Younes Kaboul from Spurs for £6m in the summer of 2008.

It’s a clear statement of transfer intent from the Blues, who are significantly upping the transfers fees paid for players this summer as they bid for Championship progress.

Pompey have brought in three players to date this summer, with Odin Bailey a free transfer capture from Stockport County.

That deal was followed by Northern Ireland under-21 international Eoin Kenny signing from Dundalk, with Shein the latest arrival this week.
