Portsmouth keeper again available for loan after counterpart's return from injury

The American keeper was on trial with the Hawks during pre-season but manager Paul Doswell opted not to sign him.

Turnbull was then kept at Fratton Park as cover after Alex Bass suffered an ankle injury at Stevenage on the opening day of the campaign.

The University of Notre Dame graduate served as No2 to Craig MacGillivray for five games while Bass was on the treatment table.

But since Bass has recovered from his setback, Turnbull's been left out of the past three match-day squads.

Having had little experience of senior football during his career, Pompey are keen for the 22-year-old to start playing on a regular basis in non-league football.

Kenny Jackett's not too concerned which division it would be – as he's confident Turnbull will make swift strides.

The Blues boss said: ‘There isn't anything at the moment.

‘But now the non-league season has started then we do hope to get him out on loan and playing games to build on his work with goalkeeping coach John Keeley.

‘Duncan has been working hard. With Alex Bass and Craig MacGillivray above him, he does need to get out on loan to play some games.

‘We'll see what level he might go to. It very much depends on where it is.

‘I do think senior football is senior football and it will be good for him in this country.

‘I think he will quickly be able to move through (the leagues) once he does get his opportunity.’

Turnbull will still be able to complete a loan move to a non-league club after tomorrow’s domestic transfer deadline for Premier League and EFL clubs.

He is out of contract at the end of June, although Pompey hold the option of an additional 12 months.
