Portsmouth keeper Alex Bass moves to Southend on an emergency loan

Pompey reserve keeper Alex Bass has joined Southend on a seven-day emergency loan deal.

The Shrimpers are allowed to make the signing outside of the transfer window because of an injury to their regular keeper Mark Oxley.

Mark Molesley’s side have bounced back from a poor start to the season to climb out of the League Two drop zone and won 3-1 at promotion-chasing Forest Green earlier in the week.

The move gives Bass a chance of spending time out on the pitch again after recovering from a stress fracture in his leg.

The 22-year-old has played back-up to Craig MacGillivray this season, despite starting the first game of the season – away to Stevenage in the first round of the EFL Cup.

The Pompey graduate player has played 34 times for the Blues.

He joins a Southend side already brimming with Pompey connections.

Reeco Hackett-Fairchild is currently on loan at Roots Hall, while the League Two outfit also have Greg Halford and Ricky Holmes on their books.

Today, Southend host Salford in League Two.
