Tisdale was shown the door after last night’s 2-0 home defeat to Oxford United increased relegation fears.

It means they will likely be overseen by director of football Tommy Widdrington for next week’s visit of Pompey to the Memorial Ground (February 16).

Former Exeter boss Tisdale was appointed in November to replace Ben Garner – yet lasted just 19 matches for the Pirates.

Rovers are presently positioned one place above the relegation zone following 10 matches without a win in all competitions.

Their last victory arrived on January 2, when they claimed a 2-1 success over Blackpool.

Pompey have yet to face Rovers this season, with their original encounter over Christmas called off because of an outbreak of coronavirus in Kenny Jackett’s camp.

That has been rearranged for Tuesday night next week – with the Blues travelling to Crewe on Saturday first.
