Pompey this afternoon slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Darren Moore’s team, courtesy of Reece James’ 79th-minute winner.

In a match of few goal-scoring opportunities for either side and suffering from a lack of creativity, that strike was sufficient to settle the fixture.

It means Pompey have lost two of their last three matches at Fratton Park – having been undefeated in the league for 17 months previously.

Brown told The News: ‘We said at half-time, one goal either way would decide it.

‘I felt comfortable, it didn’t feel like they troubled us at all, but that’s how it goes.

‘Sometimes when you’ve had a good amount of possession they catch you out of position – and they’ve gone on to score.

‘After the opening 15 minutes I didn’t feel troubled at the back, we defended well as a team.

‘We can look at last week (MK Dons) and that was a prime example.

‘In these tight games, that’s where you have to be clinical, taking your chances. It was one of those days today, it didn’t go for us.

‘But we’ve got games thick and fast and we can rectify that pretty quickly, starting at Gillingham on Tuesday.’
