Premier League football is on our TV and it’s tipping it down outside - yes it’s really the middle of June. But what we really care about is what impacts Pompey. So we’re keeping you updated with all the news ahead of the play-off clash with Oxford United next week - all in one place.

Pompey are facing a side with the ability to throw a Robert Maxwell-sized spanner in the works....

The trouble with Portsmouth having to play Oxford United in the play-offs

The sense of anticipation is still vivid despite Pompey being denied a Fratton coming-out party, or even a visit to one of English football’s cathedrals.

So those fans who’ve been around long enough, could’ve afforded themselves a chuckle when the two clubs were paired in the environs of a play-off fight to the death: the team who enjoy spoiling the Pompey party in a setting where we can’t win a game. Perfect.

League One rivals join race for Pompey target

The opening salvo in a bidding war for Pompey target Kevin Nisbet has been fired.

Dundee United have laid down a £250,000 offer for the prolific Scotsman, according to thecourier.co.uk.

And the Blues’ League One rivals Shrewsbury Town are also said to be keen to take the Dunfermline hitman to New Meadow.

Pompey are known to be interested in the 23-year-old and have been tracking his progress for some time.

Sunderland release five as they prepare for another season in League One

Centre-back Alim Ozturk is among five players who have been released by Sunderland as the Black Cats prepare for another season in League One.

Phil Parkinson’s side missed out on promotion as the EFL adopted a points-per-game formula to determine final league positions and play-off spots - prompting the Wearsiders to assess their playing options ahead of next term.

And Ozturk, who was sent off in the first leg of Pompey’s play-off tie with Sunderland last season following a foul on Gareth Evans,  is among the five players now looking for a new club.

The Black Cats successfully appealed against the defender’s dismissal, allowing Ozturk to feature in the second leg, which finished goalless and allowed them to play Charlton in the play-off final.

The other members of Parkinson’s squad who have been released are Jack Baldwin, Duncan Watmore, Joel Lynch and Ethan Robson.
