Lee Bowyer to depart Charlton

Lee Bowyer has a manger coveted by some Pompey fans.

The South London Press are reporting that Bowyer is set to leave Charlton today.

However, it’s said that Championship strugglers Birmingham is his likely destination rather than Fratton Park.

Still, it means the Addicks will also be trying to recruit a new manager and will likely be looking at candidates the same ilk of Pompey.

Gallen set to speak to the press

Joe Gallen is due to speak to The News this afternoon ahead of the game against Peterborough. We’ll have all the reaction from Pompey’s assistant boss on the departure of Kenny Jackett and more.

Gallen to take charge at Peterborough

It’s easy to forget amid Pompey’s new search for a new manager that they have a game at high-flying Peterborough tomorrow.

The Blues have confirmed that assistant-manager Joe Gallen will take charge.

Coach Nigel Gibbs, brought in by Kenny Jackett during his absence when he had a mole removed from his forearm, has also left the club.

A Pompey statement said: ‘Portsmouth Football Club can confirm that assistant manager Joe Gallen will be in charge for Tuesday’s League One match at Peterborough.

‘The club are currently in the process of appointing a new first team manager following the departure of Kenny Jackett.

‘Pompey can also confirm that Nigel Gibbs has left his role on the coaching team. We would like to thank him for his assistance over the past few weeks and wish him well for the future.’

Stendel remains favourite with the bookies

Daniel Stendel was as big as 18/1 when first introduced into the market by Sky Bet to become next Pompey manager.

He shortened into 1/3 last night after The News revealed he was someone the Blues were looking at.

And the German remains a short-priced favourite. He’s slightly drifted at 2/5 but still remains solid.

Neil Harris also on the shortlist

It’s not a big surprise that the out-of-work Neil Harris is also a name Pompey are considering.

Harris has a League One promotion under his belt at Millwall, while he guided Cardiff to the Championship play-offs last season.

Harris was sacked by the Bluebirds in January.

Stendel the early frontrunner

Daniel Stendel is one name on Pompey’s shortlist - and it’s been met by open arm.

The former Barnsley boss has been sounded out by the Blues, although there’s been some wrangling over the length of his deal.

Still, the Fratton faithful like the idea of Stendel becoming new manager as many have added German flag emojis next toe their Twitter names.
