Portsmouth mourn the passing of Hall of Famer and goal-scoring great Ray Hiron

Pompey are mourning the passing of striking legend Ray Hiron at the age of 76.

The striker is sixth on the club’s all-time scoring list, with 117 goals in 364 appearances.

In total, the Gosport lad, who left the Dockyard to become a professional footballer with the Blues, spent 11 seasons at Fratton Park before leaving for Reading the summer of 1975.

He was recognised for his outstanding contribution by being inducted in Pompey’s maiden Hall of Fame intake in March 2009.

Hiron had been suffering from a long illness and passed away at a Fareham care home yesterday afternoon.
