Portsmouth pre-season fixture confirmed as Blues head back to scene of biggest FA Cup shock

Pompey will travel to Aldershot on July 15 as part of their pre-season schedule

Pompey will return to the scene of their biggest FA Cup upset this summer.

Aldershot Town, who knocked Andy Awford’s Blues out of the famous old competition at the first round stage in 2014, have confirmed the Fratton Park side will travel to the Recreation Ground for a pre-season fixture on Wednesday, July 15.

The game against the National League outfit is the first 2026 friendly to be confirmed.

Last season, John Mousinho’s side took part in seven warm-up games ahead of their 2025-26 Championship campaign, three of which came against non-league opposition.

Opponents and dates for Pompey’s other games ahead of their latest Championship campaign are yet to be confirmed.

Mark Molesley’s 80th-minute scrappy effort earned The Shots a 1-0 replay win against the vistors and a second-round fixture against Rochadale, after both side’s drew 2-2 at Fratton Park.

It was the first time the Blues, who were in League Two at the time, had lost to a non-league side in the Cup. The defeat also meant Pompey remained in the hunt for their first FA Cup win since beating Spurs in the 2010 semi-final final at Wembley.

In what was a season to forget, Pompey eventually finished 16th in the fourth tier.

The club parted company with manager Awford on April 13, 2015, with Gary Waddock taking charge of the Blues’ remaining games.
