Portsmouth rub salt into wounds as Southampton suffer record Premier League defeat (again)

Pompey were quick to stick the boot in as rivals Southampton suffered a 9-0 annihilation at Manchester United last night.

The Blues took to social media to give their congratulations to United on the landmark win, with a post on Twitter which has gone viral.

Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side, of course, suffered a 9-0 demolition at the hands of Leicester on home turf in 2019.

And they have now suffered the indignity of losing by the same scoreline at Old Trafford, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side embarrassed their opponents.

Pompey were’t going to miss out on the opportunity for some light-hearted ribbing at their Hampshire foe’s expense, as they gave a tribute to United for their achievement.

Replying to their original tweet where they did the same thing to Leicester, Pompey said: ‘Congratulations to @ManUtd for equalling the record for biggest @PremierLeague win.’

Pompey fans were quick to lap up the banter, of course, as they enjoyed the afterglow of their side’s own excellent 3-1 success at Charlton.

And that was reflected in the memes doing the rounds and plenty of references to German-speaking Austrian Hasenhüttl saying ‘nein’ in response to various questions...
