As a consequence of latest developments, the Football League have granted the suspension of the Boxing Day clash with Swindon and the December 29 trip to Bristol Rovers.

As it stands, the visit to Accrington (January 2) remains in place.

In accordance with Football League regulations, an investigation will be launched into the circumstances behind the match postponements.

In a statement, the Football League said: ‘Portsmouth’s next two Sky Bet League One fixtures against Swindon Town (Saturday 26 December) and Bristol Rovers (Tuesday 29 December) have been suspended.

‘The Club informed the EFL that they would be unable to fulfil the fixtures following recent positive COVID-19 tests and the requirement for players and staff to self-isolate as per EFL and Government guidance in order to mitigate against the risk of further infection.

‘The circumstances surrounding the postponements will now be the subject of an investigation in accordance with EFL Regulations.

‘Revised dates for the rearranged fixtures will be confirmed in due course.’
