Portsmouth set to sign Sheffield Wednesday, Lincoln and Huddersfield Town-wanted midfielder Odin Bailey on free transfer - report

Yet another name has appeared on the reported Pompey wanted list.

The transfer rumour mill has churned out another name for the Pompey fans to keep an eye on.

On a day that has seen Abu Kamara linked with a move back to Fratton Park, reports from Sweden claiming the Blues have made a €1m offer for Antalyaspor midfielder Jesper Ceesay, and claims north of the border that the Fratton Park club, along with Stoke, have had a bid accepted by Dundee for defender Luke Graham, another potential target has been identified.

And it’s yet another midfielder!

According to the Manchester Evening News’ Sam Byrne, Pompey are set to sign former Stockport County player Odin Bailey following his release from Edgeley Park.

He reports the Blues have won the race for the 26-year-old free agent’s signature, seeing off interest from fellow Championship side Lincoln City and League One duo Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town.

A player sporting director Rich Hughes knows from his time at Forest Green Rovers, Bailey made 46 appearances for the Hatters last season, helping them finish third in the League One table before losing to Bolton Wanderers in the play-off final.

He has featured 140 times for Stockport for the past three years, scoring 12 goals.

An attack-minded midfielder, Bailey came through the youth ranks at Birmingham City before enjoying spells at Forest Green (twice), Livingston and Salford.

Bailey made 31 Scottish Premiership appearances during his season-long loan at Livingston during the 2021-22 campaign. However, he’s never played above League One level during his time in the EFL.

The link to Bailey has emerged has the Blues look to bolster a midfield that currently has Ebou Adams, Marlon Pack and Luke Le Roux as John Mousinho’s options.

Pompey have been linked with numerous midfielders in recent weeks, with a move for defensive-minded Estonia international Rocco Shein close.
