The Sky Blues moved to the top of the table after picking up a 1-0 victory at St Andrews through summer target Matt Godden’s first-half goal.

That put Mark Robins’ side two points clear at the top and five points ahead of Kenny Jackett’s men.

But the result means Pompey maintain their third-placed position which they moved into on Friday night with success over Rochdale, and kept after their rivals dropped points yesterday.

Robins felt his team were worthy winners as they continued their strong home form.

He said: ‘We started brilliantly and we wanted to keep them quiet for the first 15 minutes of the second half and things would then shift.

‘They are full of good players and they are on a good run so their confidence is up - but so is ours.

‘We created enough to win by more goals but I’ll take the 1-0 all day long.’
