The winger called in unwell on Saturday morning and was instructed by Blues physio Bobby Bacic to go into self-isolation.

Curtis, who had previously tested negative in the preceding week, was subsequently ruled out of today’s FA Cup encounter at Ashton Gate, which ended in a 2-1 defeat for Pompey.

The Republic of Ireland international was not one of the five who contracted the disease before Christmas, which forced the cancellation of two League One fixtures.

Now he will be tested to see if he has contracted coronavirus.

Jackett said: ‘Ronan was ill on Saturday morning so we decided not to risk him, not to take him, hopefully he recovers pretty well.

‘He had a negative covid test last week and we will test him now.

‘Ronan got up Saturday morning, felt ill and phoned the physio, who told him to stay back.

‘Over the last 48 hours he hasn’t really felt any better, so hopefully he gets over it pretty quickly. He hasn’t been in for training and didn’t travel with us.

‘We will speak to him tonight, maybe tomorrow morning as well, to see how he is. I am sure somewhere along the line we will retest him for covid this week.

‘We hope he’s okay, you never know when you do pick it up, you have to be thorough, you have to be diligent.

‘Obviously then if somebody is feeling rough you have to make sure that you work accordingly.’

Of the five which previously tested positive this season, just Jack Whatmough has been named.

The identities of the other four players have not been made public, yet have all made a recovery and it is understood were in the Ashton Gate squad.
