Portsmouth winger Ronan Curtis left out of Republic of Ireland squad

The Pompey winger is left out of new manager Stephen Kenny's first set-up for Eire's Nations League matches next month.

The Boys in Green have a trip to Bulgaria on September 3 before welcoming Finland to Dublin three days' later.

However, Curtis once again won’t be meeting up with his international team-mates.

The 24-year-old was axed by former boss Mick McCarthy for Ireland's last squad gettogether in November for a friendly with New Zealand and crunch crunch Euro 2020 qualifier against Denmark.

That was due to a dip in form the ex-Derry City man suffered at Fratton Park at the start of last season.

However, Curtis responded in brilliant fashion and once again became a key player for the Blues.

He ended the campaign with 14 goals and 12 assists as Kenny Jackett's side fell to League One play-off semi-final defeat to Oxford.

Curtis netted in the 1-1 draw in the first leg on the south coast.

It comes as somewhat of a surprise the south London-born ace hasn’t been selected in the Ireland squad.

The wide man also worked under Kenny when he was in charge of Eire under-21s.

Pompey pulled their Carabao Cup first-round tie with Stevenage back a week to this Saturday, August 29. The League Two side claimed it was due to the Blues having an international call-up.

It means Curtis will be available for the EFL Trophy match against Colchester on Tuesday, September 9 before Pompey’s League One curtain-raiser against Shrewsbury on Saturday, September 12.

It remains to be seen whether Craig MacGillivray will stay in Scotland’s squad for matches with Israel and Czech Republic after falling behind Alex Bass in the Fratton Park goalkeeping pecking order.
