Portsmouth confirm Callum Lang's deadline-day departure as Preston North End seal club-record swoop
Callum Lang’s two-year Pompey stay has come to a close.
Pompey have confirmed the departure of Callum Lang.
The popular forward has this evening left Fratton Park to join Championship rivals Preston North End for an undisclosed fee.
It brings to an end a two-year affiliation with the Blues, which saw the 27-year-old net 16 goals and provide three assists in 53 appearances.
After making the move to Fratton Park from Wigan Athletic in January 2024, Lang played a central role during the second half of the 2023-24 campaign, helping Pompey to the League One title.
The winger was then a key figure in John Mousinho’s men escaping relegation last term, despite missing two-and-a-half months due to a hamstring lay-off, scoring 10 goals in 32 appearances.
Injuries would once again impact his availability during the first half of this term, limiting the attacker to just eight league outings.
Lang’s last appearance for the Blues came in a 1-1 draw against QPR on Boxing Day, with the former Fratton favourite sidelined due to a fresh hamstring issue.
Preston complete Callum Lang swoop
The ex-Pompey man has now, though, penned a three-and-a-half-year deal at Deepdale and makes the move to a Preston side, who have paid a club-record fee to land his services.
His switch also represents the possibility of a return closer to home for the Scouser, who is expected to become a father later this year.
After a failed summer swoop, the Lilywhites reignited their interest in Lang last month before finally agreeing a deal in the final knockings of the transfer window.
Lang said his farewells at the club’s Hilsea training base last week and was in the north west on deadline day to finalise a switch.
The forward is expected to come up against his former side this weekend, with Mousinho’s men making the trip to Deepdale on Saturday.
