Portsmouth dealt fresh double injury blow ahead of crucial Charlton Athletic showdown

Pompey face Charlton Athletic in a rearranged Championship contest at The Valley on Tuesday evening.

John Mousinho has confirmed both Andre Dozzell and Adrian Segecic will miss Tuesday’s crucial Championship showdown against Charlton Athletic.

Injuries have continued to hamper the Blues throughout the campaign with 14 players expected to be sidelined for the midweek trip to the capital.

Dozzell was withdrawn with 10 minutes to go after a collision with Patrick Bamford which forced him off with an ankle issue.

Despite he best efforts to continue, the 26-year-old was replaced by Luke Le Roux and left Fratton Park wearing a protective boot.

The former QPR and Ipswich Town man has been an ever-present in the midfield this term, with his sole Championship absence coming against Swansea City due to suspension.

But Dozzell is now facing a spell on the sidelines according to Mousinho, who has admitted the Blues are awaiting scan results to determine the extent of his set-back.

The head coach said: ‘We’ll wait for the scan later this week but he’ll miss tomorrow. With Dozz, we’ve hardly brought him off all season so that wouldn’t have been the change that we naturally wanted to make.

‘When he first went down, we checked that he was feeling fine and alright so we kept him on but we had to take him off towards the backend of the game and make those changes.

‘It was the same one (ankle) that he went down with treatment earlier in the game.

‘No, not yet (when he could be back). We’ll wait for the scan results.’

Pompey suffered a double injury blow in the second half of Saturday’s defeat, with Segecic also forced off due to a dead leg in the closing stages.

The Aussie was withdrawn with 13 minutes to go after a collision with Blades stopper Michael Cooper, which saw Luton Town loanee Jacob Brown replace him on the right wing.

Although the 21-year-old’s issue isn’t too serious, Mousinho has ruled him out of Tuesday’s rearranged Championship game with 18th-placed Charlton Athletic but is expected to return for Saturday’s showdown with Millwall.

The head coach said: ‘Adrian is okay. He picked up a bit of a dead leg in that clash with the goalkeeper. He won’t play tomorrow but we should see on Saturday.’

The Blues could now be without 14 firsy-team players for the midweek trip to The Valley.
