'Don’t like what I see. I’m no expert': Alarming Josh Murphy injury concern after Portsmouth's triumph over Sheffield Wednesday

Josh Murphy has missed Pompey’s previous five matches in all competitions due to injury.

Pompey supporters on social media have spotted an alarming concern over Josh Murphy, who continues to be sidelined through injury.

The winger, who has registered six assists this term, has been heavily impacted by injury, which has limited him to just 14 outings to date.

After missing more than a month-and-a-half due to an ankle problem, the 30-year-old sustained a hamstring issue in the 1-1 draw with Derby County before Christmas.

Although John Mousinho initially admitted Murphy would be absent for a short period, the head coach recently confirmed the forward could miss up to three more weeks of action.

The ex-Norwich City talent’s latest set-back has seen him sit out the Blues’ previous five matches in all competitions, including Saturday’s 1-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday.

Indeed, Murphy was spotted on the touchline after the game in a video posted by the club as Mousinho's squad reaped up the full-time celebrations with the travelling fans.

However, supporters have noticed the winger was donning a protective boot on his right foot, with many suggesting the popular figure could be sidelined with something more serious than the orginal hamstring problem.

Following the triumph, members of the Fratton faithful took to social media to voice their concerns over Murphy, while others were more relaxed about the issue, with Pack also making the trip to the Steel City with his problem not suspected to be serious.

@HarvMarksy: Don’t like what I see on Josh Murphy foot at the end there.

@mmmpfc17: Why is Josh Murphy in a boot?

@ozymandiasJH: I’m no expert on what the young people wear but isn’t this a trainer?

@JohnnyGib68: Looks long term, that... That is horrible to see. I hope he's back earlier than I think...

@Limmy05: All part of the double bluff.... Why would he travel otherwise?

@PompeyAlex: Don’t worry. He’ll be playing Sunday.

@pfc_sam: He has been for a while I think someone saw him in it at Arsenal game.

After sustaining a hamstring injury against Derby before Christmas, Mousinho was optimistic the winger wouldn’t be sidelined for a long period.

Speaking ahead of last weekend’s defeat to Arsenal in the FA Cup, the Blues boss revealed Pompey are being cautious over the 2024-25 Player of the Season having struggled with a ‘number of different ailments’.

The head coach told BBC Radio Solent: ‘Josh is hopefully going to be 3-4 weeks away from a return. We’re being cautious on a number of fronts with him.

He’s been struggling through with a number of different ailments. The things that I suppose go on behind the scenes in terms of him getting ready to play and him being prepared to play football games for us.

‘Walking into the physio room on certain days and seeing him get two injections to play a game and making sure he’s fit and right for the side.

‘Unfortunately, that was probably one step too far when he played against Derby and just needs a bit of time out.’
