Former Portsmouth favourite sends clear warning despite Millwall and Charlton Athletic triumphs

Pompey sit six points clear of the relegation zone following Saturday’s 3-1 triumph over promotion-chasing Millwall.

Lee Brown has made it clear Pompey ‘still have a lot to do’ in their survival battle despite impressive triumphs over Millwall and Charlton Athletic.

But the former Fratton favourite has been massively impressed by the Blues’ brilliant turn in form, which has increased their advantage over the relegation zone.

Following dropped points for West Brom and Leicester City, the Blues extended their advantage to the bottom three and now sit six points clear as the race for survival intensifies.

Brown, who amassed 131 outings during a three-and-a-half-year stay at Fratton Park, is adamant his former side can be spirited by their performances in the capital over the past two games.

But the ex-Bristol Rovers and AFC Wimbledon man has stressed Mousinho’s men must not take their advantage over the relegation zone for granted with the games coming thick and fast.

Pompey send clear warning despite Millwall triumph

Speaking on BBC Radio Solent, Brown said: ‘What a performance, what a performance to every man, What an incredible performance.

‘I feel like for away performance goes, I think that must be the best of the season for me.

‘The way the boys defended and still had the impetus to go out and attack, which they did.

‘And to score three goals away at Millwall, who are pushing for automatic, not playoffs, automatic promotion, to score three goals and be as solid as they were, it was credit to the players.

It is looking healthier, but there's still a lot to do.
I don't think anyone can take it for granted. Six points but as we know in football, those six points can go pretty quickly.

‘So I feel like it's, you're in a much, much more positive place, but you can't take that for granted.

‘We've had two fantastic results, Tuesday and Saturday but now it's on to Wrexham and can we go and get something out of the game? Can you go up there and nick a point? And then you’ve got your game on Saturday.

‘It is looking healthier, but let's not take it for granted because things can change very quickly in football. We just got to keep pulling away, putting more and more points between us and that 22nd place.’

Pressure off Pompey ahead of Wrexham

Pompey are back on the road again on Tuesday evening as they visit Wrexham for the first time in 40 years.

The Red Dragons moved into the play-off positions with a 5-3 triumph over Ipswich Town on Saturday as they bid for four successive promotions.

And Brown believes Saturday’s win against Millwall can take the pressure off Pompey ahead of another tough test.

‘I think so. It just eases that pressure, you know, and sometimes when that pressure eases, you end up nicking another result. Like, as today, you come here today as Portsmouth and no one's expecting you to win today.

‘I think every fan would probably go if we nick a draw we'd be happy, and even myself before the game I thought if we nick a point here today you take that.

‘So sometimes when you're the underdog like that and there's no pressure on you and all the pressure's on Millwall, you've seen it time and time again. The underdog ends up running away with it because teams like Millwall, teams like Wrexham take you for granted.

‘They think they're down the bottom of their league for a reason. We turn up today and just walk all over them, but we’ve got a good side and when we put our minds to it, we know we can score, we can be a real threat.’
