‘Powerful. Physical. Fantastic’: Exciting Sheffield Wednesday verdict over Svante Ingelsson after reported Portsmouth bid
Pompey are believed to have Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Svante Ingelsson in their sights after a reported bid.
Pompey have been handed a glowing review over reported target Svante Ingelsson.
The Blues’ January business is accelerating with nine days to go in the window as John Mousinho bids to strengthen his side.
The Sheffield Wednesday midfielder is believed to be on the radar of the football operations at Fratton Park, with reports suggesting a bid has been knocked back by the Owls.
Our sister paper, the Sheffield Star, have claimed Pompey have had an offer rejected by the administration-hit club for Ingelsson.
The 27-year-old is entering the final six months of his deal at Hillsborough - although the Championship’s bottom club are said to hold an extra 12-month option on those terms.
The Swede has spent two years in the Steel City, amassing 65 appearances for Wednesday following his 2024 switch, which has seen him score two goals and register five assists.
What Pompey can expect from Svante Ingelsson after reported bid
And former Owls boss Danny Rohl was a huge admirer of the midfielder during his time at Hillsborough before his departure last summer.
The now Rangers head coach has delivered an exciting verdict over what Pompey could be getting if they were to pursue a move for Ingelsson.
Rohl said in December 2024: ‘For Svante, it’s a new league. It’s a new manager. I think his position is between six, eight, and 10, and sometimes he travels all over the pitch.
‘We know what we get from him: a physical, strong side, powerful deep runs, different profile.
‘Look for example, when he played against Norwich, he did a fantastic job, because the task was working against the ball, and he could bring his strengths in.
‘In other games, you think you have more ball possession, and the spaces are tighter and smaller, then maybe for him, it’s not always the best game.
‘For him it’s now, keep going. He’s improved. He’s a great character. He worked hard. He takes this as a challenge.’
Pompey’s midfield options amid Svante Inglesson bid

Mousinho currently has five options currently available in his engine room ahead of Sunday’s south-coast derby against Southampton.
Ebou Adams is the latest recruit in the midfield, making a permanent move from Derby County earlier this month.
The 30-year-old joins John Swift, Andre Dozzell, Luke Le Roux and Marlon Pack in the middle of the park, with the skipper poised to return ahead of this weekend’s contest.
The 34-year-old is expected to be the only absentee expected to be available for the derby, with Pompey currently in the midst of an injury crisis.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Thursday the Blues boss said: ‘I think the one we should have back is Marlon, I don’t think anyone else will be back before Sunday.
‘He’s going to train today. He’s been in and out, missed the last couple of league games. Played against Arsenal but it was just that niggly hamstring injury so he’ll be excited about Sunday.’
