'Absolutely baffling. Clueless. Madness': Shock Luton Town verdict after Portsmouth loan move for £1.5m man
Millenic Alli became Pompey’s first January business, sealing a loan move from Luton Town.
Luton Town supporters have been left questioning Millenic Alli’s move to Pompey.
It represented the Blues’ first piece of transfer business, with John Mousinho looking to strengthen ahead of a huge survival battle in the second half of the season.
Alli arrives at Fratton Park after a frustrating start to the campaign at Kenilworth Road, which has seen him fall down the pecking order under new boss Jack Wilshere.
This has seen him score just one goal and register two assists in his 16 appearances in League One this term, despite a strong end to last season in the Championship.
With the Wilshere’s men currently one point and one place away from the play-offs in the third tier, Luton supporters have been left baffled by the decision to allow the Irishman to depart on a short-term basis just 12 months after his £1.5m switch from Exeter City.
We’ve taken to X to see what the Hatters faithful have been saying over Pompey’s newest addition.
Mixed Luton verdict over Pompey signing

@AvaisShaukat: Makes sense, not quite ready to play for a failing League 1 side but good enough for the Championship! Clueless.
@Welchy: Very odd.
@worldcupblues: Technically better than who we have on the wings (Barring Gids or injured) Strange he hasn’t got much game time. Start of the season he was trying too much I think but he was the only one playing the back end of last season so it was understandable.
@george12413051: Great business as usual get rid of one of our best attackers on his day for a lightweight teenager…..make it make sense.
@AdamFountain14: Find this absolutely baffling personally. Granted not set the world a light this season, but has anyone? Argue was our stand out player last season. Brought in a kid with no experience to replace him? Mind boggles.
@LewisT_Williams: I think on his day he’s a very good player, but for whatever reason he’s a shadow of the player he was last season. He’s overthinking things and lacking confidence. Maybe a change of environment could be the best outcome for both parties, then reassess next season.
@Richbow79: Madness.
@MigCrew2000: A massive step up in every single way. Going to a better club, playing in a better stadium, with better players, in a better league, and backed by better supporters. Millenic Alli was one of Luton’s best players, that’s not opinion that’s fact.
@danlukeashby: I’m personally not a fan of this decision to let Alli go on loan he was constantly played out of position at the start of the season under Bloomfield and not been given a chance under Wilshere. Luton have replaced him with a kid who isn’t ready for league 1 level.
@BedfordHatter: A few I’d rather see the back of but given our recruitment strategy in the last two years- god knows what’s coming next.
