And he believes the Chairboys won’t be going up to the second tier to make up the numbers after their against-the-odds promotion.

Gareth Ainsworth’s men shocked the division, as they went up through the play-offs despite having one of the lowest budgets in the division.

Morris made 21 appearances there under Ainsworth in the 2018-19 season and wasn’t surprised to see the unity created there reap dividends.

He said: ‘A couple of my mates asked before the play-off final if I thought it would be Oxford or Wycombe, because they were putting bets on. I told them I thought Wycombe were nailed on.

‘I don’t know if people see it from the outside but from being around it, and the team hasn’t changed massively since I was there, the team spirit and togetherness was the best I’ve ever seen.

‘I think that goes a long way in this league.

‘When I went there he (Ainsworth) said he does a lot on recruitment and doesn’t have any idiots there.

‘I don’t know if it’s through recruitment and researching personalities, or he just creates that with everyone he’s got. I’m not sure, but fair play to them.’

Wycombe will be huge favourites to finish bottom of the Championship next term as they battle clubs with budgets in a different stratosphere to theirs.

But Morris believes they won’t be fazed by being touted as the division’s whipping boys.

He added: ‘I can’t imagine they have a massive budget there.

‘So people will think they have a free hit, but they won’t want to look at it like that.

‘Say it comes to the end and they are relegated, they will be able to say “I don’t think we were expected to stay up”.

‘But I don’t think they will be going in with that attitude. They will be wanting and believing they can stay up and compete.’
