The Blues should have had the lead with the first chance of the match.

Charlton made Pompey pay for not making the most of their early promise as Williams opened the scoring after 66 minutes.
A diagonal crossfield ball was met by Ian Maatsen on first time on the run and there was the Welshman to fire home in front of Jack Whatmough.

John Marquis had a decent opening with a header from Brown’s cross five minutes after the restart, but didn’t get enough on his connection.
It was Pompey asking the questions and pushing forward as they switched to a diamond with Ellis Harrison’s introduction for Harness in the 64th minute.

And they were punished with eight minutes left as Aneke settled it, heading home sub Paul Smyth’s cross at the back post.
