Portsmouth's League One rivals Peterborough's ambitious target ahead of the new season

Chairman Darragh MacAnthony says the Posh are aiming to claim both the third-tier crown and the Leasing.com Trophy.

Peterborough have launched their vengeance mission having missed out on promotion last term, after the table was decided by an unweighted points-per-game formula amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

It was a decision MacAnthony was openly critical about as he was confident his club would finish in the top two.

Darren Ferguson's men are again expected to be in the battle for a spot in the Championship when the new campaign starts on Saturday, September 12.

While star striker Ivan Toney is likely to depart for a multi-million pound fee, the Posh will still have a strong squad at their disposal.

And MacAnthony has insisted Peterborough should be challenging for two pieces of silverware.

Speaking on his Hard Truths podcast, the Irishman said: ‘When I bought a football club, I bought it to be successful and had a pipedream of wanting three back-to-back promotions to get to the Premier League.

‘In my mind, I believed it and I told the fans what I wanted.

‘I'm a winner. It sounds arrogant but I don't wake up every day planning to lose. I want to win in life and I teach my kids the same.

‘I expect my players and club to have the same.

‘We had a meeting with the manager the other day on Zoom. What are the expectations for the season? The double – the title and the Leasing.com Trophy.

‘We set out to win. We don't set out to be mid-table or to fail. I'm go big or go home.

‘Do I put too much pressure on people around me? Sure. Do I apologise for it? No

‘If I improve people’s lives and get more out of them then it’s good for them, too.’
