But despite the Blues’ proud record in the competition in recent seasons – and Posh’s decision to go stronger than expected for the last-16 tie – Kenny Jackett is set to reshuffle his pack for the game at London Road.
The News has been told that none of the starting XI involved at Bristol City on Sunday will kick-off tonight’s fixture, which means an entirely line-up will take the field.
It will no doubt be a blend of youth and experience – as has been the case for all of Pompey’s Trophy games this season.
But who will Jackett call upon?

1. Duncan Turnbull
With Alex Bass picking up a dead leg in training and Craig McGillivray set to be rested, the American looks set to be handed his Pompey debut. 2. Harry Kavanagh - right-back

3. Paul Downing - centre-back
There's been some interest in the centre-back this month, with his future clearly away Fratton Park. But until that interest becomes concrete, Kenny Jackett is happy to utilise the experienced centre-half in the Papa John's Trophy. 4. James Bolton - centre-back
Like Downing, Bolton is free to leave Fratton Park if interest emerges. He's yet to feature in the league this season but his experience has been helpful as the Blues give youth a chance in this season's Trophy. Will once again provide that dependability tonight against the Posh. Photo: Nigel Keene
