Former Pompey favourite Ben Thompson is poised to leave Millwall.

It’s being reported that the midfielder – who made a huge impression on the Fratton faithful during the first half of the 2018-19 season – will have his Lions contract cancelled by mutual consent today.

The decision comes with the 26-year-old having played just 46 minutes of Championship football this season.

It’s news which will no doubt prick the ears of Pompey fans who would love to be reunited with Thompson on the south coast – especially when manager Danny Cowley is currently in the hunt for a midfielder ahead of tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

However, it’s been suggested that Thompson will move to Gillingham following his Millwall departure and link up with his former Den boss Neil Harris, who was today named as the Gills’ replacement for the sacked Steve Evans.
